Background information on George Cadbury and Bournville
- George & Richard Cadbury took over their fathers business in 1861
- Due to Quaker beliefs, he provided decent homes by William Alexander Harvey in a healthy environment which can be afforded by industrial workers
- In 1900 Bournville Village Trust was founded to develop the village
- Today it has covers over 1000 acres, providing homes for 25,000 people
- 1st manager was John Henry Barlow
- George Cadbury stated that one tenth should be "laid out and used as parks, recreation grounds and open spaces
- Originally was farmsteads and cottages with country lanes
- Selly Manor & Miniworth Greaves date back to the 14th century or earlier - each were moved to Bournville in 20th century
- Aims were to "alleviate the evils of modern more cramped living conditions"
